Everyone is ready to welcome the summer months with the arrival of Memorial Day on Monday. And, of course, for many Long Islanders, the unofficial kickoff to summer fun begins with a trip to Jones Beach to watch those amazing aerial maneuvers that take over the sky during the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Air Show on Saturday and Sunday. This spectacular display of flying stunts over the Atlantic Ocean, on May 26-27, marks the start of the summer season for many families.
Spectators will be treated to performances from the world’s most elite military and civilian pilots, featuring the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor (in its second air show appearance), the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft. This year’s lineup will include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the U.S. Army and National Guard, along with some of the top civilian aerobatic performers performing today.
The renowned fliers will perform precision demonstrations that will amaze and delight the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected, with their acrobatic turns and displays of precision. Those in attendance can expect a one-of-a-kind air performance by the Air Force’s sophisticated F-22 stealth aircraft, demonstrating the unique capabilities of this advanced fighter aircraft.
The F-22’s sleek aerodynamic design, advanced flight controls, increased and unmatched thrust and high thrust-to-weight ratio allow it to cruise at supersonic airspeeds and outmaneuver all current aircraft. “We are thrilled to welcome back the renowned F-22 to the Bethpage Air Show lineup. Tri-state area residents are in for a treat,” said Rose Harvey, Commissioner, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation.
