After beating out a large field of contestants, WFAN’s newest radio personality is Valley Stream South High School teacher and coach Demetri Adrahtas. He was crowned champion of WFAN’s Fantasy Phenom Challenge on Monday.

Adrahtas, of Long Beach, and four other finalists competed live during Mike Francesa’s end of summer bash at Bar A in Lake Como, N.J. on Aug. 23. A panel of guest judges each said Adrahtas was their pick to win, but an online vote and the opinion of Eric Spitz, director of programming for CBS Sports Radio, and Mark Chernoff, WFAN program director, were also considered.

In addition to teaching special education at South for the last 10 years, Adrahtas is also the head coach of the varsity girls’ soccer and varsity softball teams.

There were three contest rounds, which began in late July. With the win, Adrahtas gets a one-year hosting gig with the sports talk radio station.

Check the Herald next week for a full-length story on Adrahtas’ win.
