Seven Valley Stream North High School student-athletes competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Winter Track & Field Championships in Staten Island on March 5. Clemson University-bound Ryan John won the state title in the triple jump event, making him the seventh individual state champion for North’s track and field program. He also finished second in the long jump and was an NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award winner.

Sophomore Kevin Beltran competed in the sectional distance medley relay, running the 1,000-meter leg for the Nassau County team. The relay team earned All-State honors by finishing in fifth place. Ariana Paul, who is headed to NC State University in the fall, competed in two events for the Spartans with a 14th-place finish in the long jump performance and a 17th-place finish statewide in the triple jump.

Finally, the Spartans competing in the 4x400 meter relay race, which included sophomore Sedgeley Duperval and seniors Jonathon JJ Xavier, Guy Alden Chery, and Daniel Ellis, finished in 13th place with a time of 3:32.99, narrowly beating the school’s own record of 3:33.95 in 2018.
