Poetry workshop

Dr. Linda Opyr, a Poet Laureate of Nassau County and the author of six collections of poetry, will lead a session inviting participants to write their own poems and share their work with others. The event takes place at the Elmont Memorial Library at 4 p.m. on Nov. 3 and a second session is scheduled for the same time on Nov. 17. Interested parties should bring a pen and paper.

Rockabilly concert

Four bands are scheduled to hit the stage for a special concert at Buckley’s Restaurant & Pub located at 159 S. Franklin Ave. on Nov. 4 starting at 9 p.m. The four-hour concert includes music from The Singing Websters, Roy Wilson & the Buzzards, Gene Casey & the Lone Sharks and Hillbilly Casino. DJ Rockin’ Daddy-o will perform before and after the concert, and in between sets.

Thanksgiving lecture

Ronald Brown will present a special lecture about the first Thanksgiving at the Elmont Memorial Library on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. Brown will discuss the Pilgrims inviting the Native American Indians to join them in a Thanksgiving feast, creating the first American holiday.
