Things are heating up in Seaford

Posted

October is Fire Prevention Month and with wildfires raging up the California coast, the time for fire safety education could not be more appropriate.

In conjunction with the national awareness campaign, Seaford Fire Department officials opened their doors to the community at an open house at 2170 Southard Ave. on Oct. 15.

Firefighters presented several demonstrations with controlled blazes, even showing families how the Jaws of Life tool works. The event also featured free giveaways and barbeque safety tips.

Many attendees were children and young adults. They had the chance to learn about the department’s Explorers Program for teens ages 14 through 18. It’s designed to teach young people about being a firefighter and gear them towards becoming a volunteer member once they are of-age.
