With the new school year only days away, Valley Stream District 30 school officials welcomed its newest teachers and staff during a two-day orientation at the Washington Avenue Kindergarten Center last week.

The orientation, headed by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Jennifer Lewner, and Human Resources Administrator, Marcela Moran, gave the new staff members a chance to get acclimated to the district and meet one another, according to a press release.

Superintendent Roxanne Garcia-France welcomed the new teachers alongside Assistant Superintendent for Business Brian Phillips, Director of Special Services Dr. Nicole Schimpf, Director of Technology Christopher Onorato, and building principals and assistant principals.

The new staff broke into two groups and rotated between different training sessions. The groups, together with building administrators, discussed a variety of timely topics for teachers heading into the upcoming year ranging from creating culturally responsive classrooms to using data to drive literacy instruction to enhancing instruction with technology.
