The races went off without a hitch last Friday night at New Hope Lutheran Church, despite a fire which damaged the building just two days before. There was no stopping Cub Scouts from Valley Stream Pack 106, who were ready to put their model race cars to the test in the annual event.
Cub Scouts receive a kit each year with a block of wood, wheels and pins. From there, scouts shape and design their car, which cannot be longer than seven inches or weigh more than five ounces. Then, on derby day, scouts bring in their cars for a weigh-in and race down the regulation track.
The next big event for Pack 106 scouts is the annual blue and gold awards banquet on March 3.
