Valley Stream hosts solemn Nassau firefighters ceremony

Firefighters from all over Nassau County gathered at Holy Name of Mary Church on May 1 for a solemn ceremony, the 77th annual United Memorial Service.
Two ladder trucks hung a large American flag over the street outside the church, where firefighters went to honor their colleagues who died in the past year. Names were read to recognize each department’s loss, bagpipes blared and wreaths were placed.
