Valley Stream Lions Club swears in new leaders

About 30 Valley Stream Lions Club members gathered at Mia’s on Rockaway Avenue on July 18 to induct new officers and honor their past president.

“We had quite a number of people, we had dignitaries and new members,” outgoing President TJ Anand said before he listed names of elected officials that were in attendance, such as State Senator Todd Kaminsky, Mayor Ed Fare and former Town of Hempstead Clerk Nasrin Ahmed.

At the dinner, Catrina Dugger was inducted as the new Lion’s Club president, Michelle Bage was inducted to serve as the new secretary and Timothy Lawton was inducted as the new treasurer. Dugger previously served as the secretary, and said his election as president was “such an honor.”

“I was just proud to be with so many people of service,” she said.

As the new president, Dugger said she would like to grow the club and help solve problems in the community. “I really hope that we can serve the community in bigger and better ways,” she said.

She also said that she would like to make Valley Streamers more aware of the services that the Lions Club provides. “That’s a big push for me, to let people know who the Lions are and that we’re here to serve,” Dugger said.

The Lions Club hosts food drives and provides high school students in the community with a scholarship. It has recently started to host the weekly car show on Rockaway Avenue and will be hosting its 25th annual Outdoor Flea Market on Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
