Valley Stream schools closed, village plows to clear roads

All school districts across Valley Stream are closed today Friday, Jan. 7, due to the snowstorm. A public notice posted on the district 30 website yesterday read: “Due to impending inclement weather, Valley Stream School District 30 schools will be closed on Friday, January 7, 2022. Children are to remain home. All before and after school programs are also canceled.” Similar statements were posted on the Valley Stream school districts’ websites. No remote learning instruction will take place at any of the school districts, deeming today a traditional snow day.

Steve Acquavella, the Valley Stream Department of Public Works supervisor stated there are currently 5 to 7 inches of snow depending on the area in the village. A statement published on the village’s Facebook page assured residents that all snow plowing crews were “out in force” and would “do their best to accommodate each resident during the snow plowing operation.” “In some cases, it is unavoidable that plowed snow blocks an opening or a driveway. Please bear with us as we do our best to keep streets clear during this storm,” the statement further read.

Calls of any snow-related concerns can go directly to the Department of Public Works at (516) 825-8494.
