Brownies know their banners
Girls from Brownie Troop 2029 and Daisy Troop 2011 were working on their girl sports try-it, and visited Five Stars Gymnastics Academy in East Rockaway as well as a Hofstra women’s basketball game.
Hofstra hosted a Girl Scout day on Feb. 20. The girls got to see a great game and were treated to a free basketball clinic hosted by the Pride team members. Hofstra held its first ever fan banner contest and the Valley Stream scouts had one of six winning banners. They will have a booth sale at Hofstra on March 22 at 7 p.m.
Pictured are Valentina Jaco, Emerald Fogarty, Connor Fogarty, Gabby Mercado, Christina Mercado, Caraline Scanlon and Bridget Sharpe. Girls who worked on the banner but were unable to attend the game include Nicole Nelson, Abigail Candelo, Alexis Alveraz, Sarah Desrosiers, Sara Schaefer and Imayah Hawkins.

His work of art
Senator Dean Skelos met with William Bertiz, a fifth-grade student in Valley Stream, on Arts Day in Albany on March 2. Bertiz had artwork on display in the state capitol.

Seeing the town through her eyes
Galina Lampert, of Valley Stream, was recently presented with a Shutterbug Award by Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. Lampert was a winner in the 2011 Town of Hempstead calendar photo contest. Her picture is featured in the town’s 2011 calendar, which is mailed to all households in the township.
