The award-winning Russian-born pianist performs at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center this weekend. Acclaimed as a pianist of world-class importance, Primakov is especially noted for his interpretation of Chopin. The program includes Schubert’s 14 Waltzes (Suite compiled by Primakov), Schumann’s Grand Sonata No.3 Op. 14 in F Minor (Concert Sans Orchestre), also Chopin’s Scherzo No.1 Op. 20 in B Minor, 3 Mazurkas.

Art Adventures
Art making and the classic children’s building components, LEGOS, combine when Nassau County Museum of Art welcomes families to “Show Us Your LEGOS.” Inspired by the brick art of Nathan Sawaya, currently on view in Nassau County Museum of Art’s Contemporary Gallery, young LEGO artists are encouraged to bring their plastic brick constructions to the museum for ‘show and tell.’ Activities include a tour of the exhibit, led by museum docents, and supervised hands-on art making.

A Ride On The Underground Railroad
Hofstra and Hempstead High School students join professional vocalists and musicians in a performance saluting Black History Month. “A Ride on The Underground Railroad” features music from an original opera, “Songs of Harriet Tubman,” by Hofstra Music Professor Nkeiru Okoye, as well as world premieres and familiar works and spirituals also centered around themes of freedom and courage. Dr. Okoye will narrate during this performance, which includes “Wade in the Water,” arranged by Hofstra Professor of Music Chandler Carter; the world premiere of a piece by composer and conductor Julius Williams and a Joplin Rag performed by pianist and composer Roy Eaton, along with members of the Hofstra University Orchestra.
