A new arts and crafts after-school program for children 8 to 12 years old will be held at the Valley Stream Community Center on Wednesdays from Nov. 18 to Dec. 23, the village announced last week.

The six-week program will feature classes given by a certified instructor in basic sketching, drawing and collage design, and creative and verbal techniques taught to express ideas and thoughts. It aims to “enhance self-esteem and confidence” and teach children to “recognize the value of an artist’s contribution to society,” according to the Recreation Department, which is organizing the program.

Registration must be in person at the Community Center at Arthur J. Hendrickson Park. The fee is $85 per child, due at registration. There is an additional $25 materials fee due at the first class.

For more information, call SallyAnn Esposito, the center’s manager, at (516) 506-1989.
