The New York Islanders have been awarded the right to develop Belmont Park, according to people close to the negotiations. A formal announcement will take place at a news conference on Wednesday, to be held at the Belmont racetrack. Gov. Mario Cuomo is slated to attend. The Islanders were selected in a two-way contest with the New York City Football Club, a soccer franchise owned by Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees. more

Human remains were found at Cow Meadow Park in Freeport on Wednesday, according to the FBI’s Long Island Gang Task Force and Nassau County police.
