Despite on and off rain last Saturday evening, the 6th Battalion Parade went on as scheduled. The Wantagh Fire Department hosted this year’s parade, which began at Cedar Creek Park and ended just past the train station.

For the second straight month, transportation took center stage at the Levittown Board of Education meeting on Sept. 10. In addition to a follow-up on an August discussion about bus routes, concerns were also brought up about safety for students crossing Hempstead Turnpike.

A $2.5 million building materials lab could be built near the Cedar Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant in Seaford to test nontoxic materials used in Nassau County road projects. Cedar Creek is one of two possible sites. Cantiague Park in Hicksville is also under consideration.

Patriot Day services will be held in Wantagh and Seaford to honor local residents killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Wantagh American Legion Post 1273 will hold its service and ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., at the Legion’s Post, at 3484 Park Avenue in Wantagh. In Seaford, a candle-lighting ceremony will take place next Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., at Seaford High School.
