Howard said the prices take into account the fact that the district will trade in some of its older buses. He noted that a particular model from 2004 is hard to get parts for. “It’s a bus that we would be happy to get rid of,” he said. “There is a market for these buses down south.”

For the new buses, the district will get about half of the purchase price back in state aid, Howard explained. Pappas asked him to explore the possibility of buying buses that use an alternative fuel.

The Board of Education is expected to continue its discussion on transportation at a future meeting.
