'A Lie of the Mind' on stage at Hofstra this weekend

A Lie of the Mind
Sam Shepard’s riveting drama about two divided families in the American West is given new life by Hofstra University’s Department of Drama and Dance, directed by Professor Jean Dobie Giebel. “A Lie of the Mind” is a darkly humorous, increasingly frenetic examination of generations torn apart by a marriage and brought together by an unspeakable act of violence. “The deeper I traveled into “A Lie of the Mind,” the more I fell in love with the characters in the play, and the more I loved them, the harder I laughed at their foibles, and cried at their catastrophes,” Giebel says in her notes. “My heart aches for them, and hopes for them.”

Portraits and Poetry
Nassau County Museum of Art celebrates families, in conjunction with its current exhibition, “Alex Katz: Selections From the Whitney Museum of American Art.” Katz’s most famous works highlight his family and friends, and in keeping with that theme, the museum invites families to enjoy a day of poetry, gallery games and family portraits. A professional photographer will take a framed portrait for visitors to bring home. Visitors will create collages and poetry that tell the story of what makes each family special, then share their works as a group.
