Whether it was on Wantagh Avenue, Island Road or Beech Street, crowds were out in full force to watch the community’s annual Fourth of July parade, which was held last Saturday morning.
With many dressed in red, white and blue to celebrate America’s 239th birthday, they watched as Wantagh’s largest parade of the year went by. Marchers included veterans, firefighters, Scouts, several bands, school district and elected officials, and representatives of numerous community organizations.
The parade was led by Wantagh American Legion Post No. 1273. The Wantagh Fire Department’s full line of shiny red trucks rolled down the streets, and Last Hope Animal Rescue showed off some furry friends looking for homes.
Reminding residents that America is a country full of diversity, members of the Ecuadorian community proudly marched, waving American flags. Children from the group stopped at various points to perform in their colorful dresses.
The parade ended with the 2014 and 2015 Miss Wantagh Courts. A ceremony followed on the steps of Wantagh Elementary School, which featured parade awards and the crowning of Miss Wantagh.
