Lakeview man arrested in deli assault

Nassau County police arrested a Lakeview man on Jan. 19 after assaulting another man at a deli last month.

Terence Cunningham, 27, had been involved in a violent dispute with a 32-year old man at the Middle Store Deli & Grocery, located at 1194 Woodfield Road in Lakeview, at 5:46 p.m. on Dec. 16, police said.

When the victim tried to leave the store, police said, Cunningham, who had already walked outside the deli, waited the man at the exit, approached him and fired a handgun, shooting him in the shoulder and chest. According to a witness, Cunningham also tried stealing from the victim and was caught fleeing the scene northbound on Woodfield Road.

In an investigation, police found Cunningham on Lehman Road in Lakeview on Jan. 19 at 11:24 p.m. and arrested him without incident.

Cunningham was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Jan. 20 and charged with first degree assault, criminal use of a firearm, first degree attempted robbery and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
