Malverne, West Hempstead school budgets approved

Voters approved Malverne School District’s $52,505,659 budget for 2014-15, a 2.5 percent increase over the current $51,244,209 budget.

For the one school board seat up for election, incumbent Marguerite O’Connor defeated challengers Jan Kasal and Cornelius Todd Smith.

Likewise, West Hempstead voters approved their district’s $57,235,856 budget, a 2.8 percent increase over the current $55,675,720 budget. The vote, according to the district website at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, was 654 votes in favor, 313 votes against.

Two seats were up for election in West Hempstead. Incumbents Pamela Lotito and Vincent Trocchia were re-elected. They were unopposed.
