Holiday Fun

Red Planet Week
Get a little bit closer to Mars, the Red Planet, during Red Planet Week at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Special family activities and demonstrations help celebrate NASA’s latest mission to Mars with its new Rover, “Curiosity.” Visitors can participate in a Curiosity workshop where you can make your own Mars Rover. Plus you’ll be able to see what it takes to drive a Mars Rover and the challenges NASA faces in relying on robots on the Mars surface. The museum will also be showing special footage from previous missions in the Space Gallery. Local high school robotic teams, including Malverne High School, are on hand to discuss how their robots are based on some of the same principles as used in NASA projects.
Monday through Friday, Dec. 26-30. Cradle of Aviation Museum, Museum Row, Garden City. (516) 572-4111 or www.cradleofaviation.org.

Film Festival
Relax at Long Island Children’s Museum during the holiday break. LICM kicks off its holiday week celebration with another children’s film festival. Enjoy a collection of entertaining short films provided by the KidFilmFest of the Brooklyn International Film Festival. These winning films include “Barko,” the story of a lonely puppy who finds himself the unwilling clown in a circus run by poodles.
