Car-related crimes, burglaries take over West Hempstead, Lakeview

Car-related crimes
    Detectives with the 5th Precinct reported several incidents of grand and petit larceny, and criminal mischief in West Hempstead throughout the end of June.

  • A car parked on Hempstead Turnpike was stolen between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on June 25.
  • Tires and rims were stolen off a car parked on Elm Street at some point between 9 p.m. on June 23 and 4:15 a.m. on June 24.
  • Tires and rims were also stolen off a car parked outside a home on Nightingale Road between 12:30 and 5:30 a.m. on June 23.
  • The driver’s side window of a car parked on Langley Avenue was smashed around 2 a.m. on June 21.
  • Someone reported that a GPS and laptop were removed from his vehicle, which was parked on Hempstead Avenue, sometime between 7 p.m. on June 28 and 6:30 a.m. on June 29.
  • A victim reported damage to the rear side and hood of his vehicle, which was parked on Mulberry Lane, some time between midnight on June 21 and 6 a.m. on June 22.

    According to police, similar incidents occurred in Elmont and Valley stream around the same dates.

Burglaries

    Two houses in West Hempstead were recently burglarized, according to detectives with the 5th Precinct. The first burglary occurred at a house on Oriole Avenue between 1 and 2:40 p.m. on June 29. The other took place at a home on Walton Street between 3:15 and 5:30 p.m. on July 2. Similarly, a vacant house on Jefferson Avenue in Lakeview was burglarized between 10 a.m. on July 1 and 10:30 a.m. on July 2. The burglar(s) removed copper piping from the residence, which has been vacant for six months.
