Crime Watch: Malverne and West Hempstead

Arrests

Police arrested two Queens women on charges of prostitution that allegedly occurred in West Hempstead on Sept. 7. 

Detectives with the Narcotics-Vice Squad said Hu Hanying, 46, and Zhao Chen, 49, both of Flushing, were arrested at 20 Hempstead Turnpike after giving undercover police detectives unlicensed massages. During the course of the illegal massage, the women offer manual stimulation of genitals in exchange for money, police reported.

Both women were charged with unauthorized practice and prostitution. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 8.

Robbery

Police are investigating an attempted robbery that took place in Malverne Park on Sept. 4 around 10:20 p.m.

According to police, two black women, one wearing a red tank top, entered Getty Gas Station, located at 471 Hempstead Tpke., made a purchase and then exited the store to meet with two black men standing in front of the gas station. 

The men, one wearing a gray hat and armed with a black handgun, approached the cashier from behind and demanded money, police said. The victim said there was someone else in the store, causing the four subjects to flee the scene on foot, westbound on Morris Avenue, according to police.

Burglary

  • According to police, $5,000 of lottery tickets were stolen from a business located at 779 W. Merrick Road in Lakeview on Sept. 5 around 9:45 p.m.
  • Photographic and computer equipment was stolen from a house on Carol Street in West Hempstead on Sept. 6 between noon and 8:30 p.m., according to police.
  • A home on Jackson Avenue in West Hempstead was broken into through a side window on Sept. 6 around 2:20 p.m., according to police. Jewelry, a cell phone, computers and other accessories were stolen, police said.
  • Police said a house on Maplewood Street in West Hempstead was broken into on Sept. 12 between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Two televisions, 10 DVDs, a DVD player, a router, an X-Box game system and other tools were stolen, according to police.

Larceny from auto

According to police, a GPS device and Nintendo Game System were stolen from a 1995 Toyota parked outside 188 Hempstead Tpke. in West Hempstead on Sept. 10 between 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
