Crunches for a cause in West Hempstead

Dozens of people, including Hempstead Town Councilman Edward Ambrosino, came out to Lady of America of West Hempstead on March 26 to participate in the fitness center's fifth annual Ab Crunch Challenge.

The challenge — in which participants compete, doing an hour of nonstop crunches — raises funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and simultaneously helps participants build physical fitness, according to Lady of America owner Vita Zorbo.
More than 100 Lady of America, Ladies Workout Express and Workout Express fitness centers participate in the annual fundraiser and together have raised more than $400,000 since 2007.

“This is a great fitness and community event to get involved with while helping the precious children of St. Jude battling cancer and other deadly diseases,” Zorbo said.
