Gingerbread University
There’s no shortage of gumdrops, lollipops and marshmallows – or creative fun for kids – at this year’s annual Gingerbread University Holiday Workshop. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to decorate their very own gingerbread houses at the annual event, hosted by the Nassau County Bar Association. Upon successful completion of the course “curriculum,” graduating students will receive their creations as well as a diploma in the Degree in Gingerbreadology.
Saturday, Dec. 4. Session I:  9:30-11:30 a.m.; Session II: 1-3 p.m. $40 per child; each student may keep the final decorated gingerbread house. Registration required. All proceeds are donated to the WE CARE Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Nassau County Bar Association. Nassau County Bar Association, 15th and West Streets, Mineola. Artist Visit
Meet Mort Kunstler, whose Civil War paintings are on currently on view at Nassau County Museum of Art, when he visits NCMA to sign his new book, “For Us The Living: The Civil War in Paintings and Eyewitness Accounts.” It’s a great time to bring the family for a special day at the museum. Take the kids on a docent-led walk-through of the current exhibition and participate in supervised art activities, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In Concert

The Boston Pops
Celebrate “Christmas with the Boston Pops” when Conductor Keith Lockhart leads the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in a holiday concert at Tilles Center this weekend. The beloved orchestra is joined by American Idol’s Melinda Doolittle and the Gloriæ Dei Cantores Choir, directed by Elizabeth Patterson, for a concert that is filled with the joy of the season. The orchestra performs many popular favorites, including including Leroy Anderson’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!,” “Winter Wonderland,” and such classics as “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and “Joy to the World.” This much-loved annual event is broadcast on PBS every year, and now Long Islanders can experience it live.
