A car fire in Lakeview on May 22 has been described as "suspicious" by Lakeview Fire Department officials.

According to Lakeview Fire Chief Heather Senti, around 8:30 p.m., Nassau County Police and Lakeview firefighters responded to the report of a fire inside a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro that had been parked in a small lot on Woodfield Road near the Lakeview train station and nearby stores.

"When we pulled up, we found an extinguished car fire," Senti said, noting that the fire had already been put out by a nearby store owner, who used a fire extinguisher. "Firefighters secured the vehicle. They spoke with some witnesses, who said they observed an individual that threw something at the car and fled the scene."

Senti added: "It was a small fire, concentrated near the front passenger side," she explained, noting that the fire was contained quickly. "In my opinion . . . it appeared to be suspicious in nature."

The Nassau County Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
