Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company performs "The Mikado"

What can you do when love is in the air? Find out when the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic masterpiece, on Saturday, June 23, at 8 p.m., at Port Washington’s Jeanne Rimsky Theater. The production features a full cast of performers, scenery and costumes, with the critically acclaimed Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Orchestra.

The Japanese setting supplies a refreshingly colorful background, although, of course, the characters are by no means Japanese, but ourselves in a very thin disguise. This opera, which has delighted audiences for more than a century represented Gilbert & Sullivan at the height of their creative genius. The score includes such Gilbert & Sullivan classics as “A Wand’ring Minstrel,” “Three Little Maids” and “Tit-willow.”
