The Malverne Union Free School District cut a ceremonial blue ribbon on Sept. 28 and celebrated the official grand opening of “Camp Explore,” the new outdoor learning space at Davison Avenue Intermediate School.

The special event was attended by members of the Malverne Board of Education, administrators and educational leaders, as well as the Davison Avenue facilities team, PTA and community members and an excited group of Davison Avenue third graders.

Davison Avenue Principal Rachel Yudin kicked off the festivities and expressed joy that her vision and roughly hand-drawn sketches are now a reality.

"Today is a day we have dreamed of for a very long time,” said Yudin. “Thanks to an incredible team effort, this empty lot has been transformed into a place that will inspire hands-on learning, be a location for peaceful outdoor gatherings and will provide opportunities for real life skill building."

Superintendent Lorna Lewis thanked the district grounds crew for their efforts and the Davison Avenue PTA for their gift of gardening tools before joining administrators and students as they used the new tools to plant tulip bulbs.

Following the ribbon cutting, the third graders provided the finale of the ceremony with a spirited performance of led by music teacher Ms. Burgner.
