McAvoy places in top 10 at Science Congress

Chris McAvoy, a science research student at West Hempstead High School, competed as a finalist to represent Long Island in the Science Teachers Association of New York State Science Congress in Albany at the College of Saint Rose on June 10.

Regional finalists from all over New York State competed in this prestigious event. McAvoy presented to and answered questions from several panels of scientists and engineers about his project, “Biomimetic Wind Turbine Blade Design Efficiency.” McAvoy finished in the top 10 and received an award for Excellence in Engineering, Mathematics and Computing.
