The Sorcerer
Gilbert and Sullivan’s early full-length opera is given a new production by the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island this weekend. The show features a cast of 25 performers and the critically acclaimed 18-piece Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Orchestra. The charming story revolves around the betrothal of Alexis and Aline. They are so enjoying being in love that they decide everyone should feel they way they do. They hire a sorcerer, who concocts a potion that compels all who drink it to fall in love with the first person they see, leading to chaotic results. The score includes such Gilbert and Sullivan classics as “My Name Is John Washington Wells,” “Time Was When Love And I Were Acquainted” and “Now To The Banquet We Press.”
Saturday, June 4, 8 p.m. $25, $20 seniors and students. Landmark on Main Street, 232 Main St., Port Washington. (516) 749-7469 or www.gilbertandsullivanli.com.
