Night of recognition at West Hempstead Board of Ed meeting

Posted

It was a night of celebration at the West Hempstead Board of Education meeting on Oct. 16 as both students and board members were honored.
The high school chorus opened the meeting with a performance of “The Star-Bangled Banner” followed by the school’s alma mater to honor the board of education. Ryan Emmanuel-Cooke, the district’s director of IEO, music and art, along with students from the chorus, presented mugs with portraits of the board members as gifts for Board Recognition Week. Emmanuel-Cooke also played the debut video from “GWToday,” a video series started by students from George Washington School. This edition featured representatives from every grade throughout the district saying “thank you” in different languages to the board members for all of their efforts.
Students and teachers from the Achieve 3000 program were also honored for their improvement in reading scores. The district congratulated eighth-graders William Bowman, Jurrell Hall and Alyssa Horgan along with seventh-graders Oceann Miller and Steve Soriano. In addition, the district also congratulated teachers Laurie Kaminsky and Christa Spano.
