Police brass to be indicted over alleged mishandling of Kennedy High burglary

Posted

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice was expected to indict three top-ranking Nassau County Police Department officers on Thursday stemming from the alleged mishandling of a burglary investigation at Kennedy High School in Bellmore in 2009.

According to published reports, Zachary Parker, now 20 years old, is alleged to have stolen audiovisual equipment ranging from $3,000 to $8,000 from Kennedy, where he was a student three years ago. But Parker was never arrested and charged by police. His family, according to those reports, had deep police ties. His father reportedly fundraises for the department.

According to reports, Parker has since been indicted and charged with third-degree burglary by the district attorney following a grand jury investigation.

The names of the three commanders were leaked to media outlets before the indictments were unsealed. The Herald is awaiting word from the District Attorney’s Office on the names before publishing them.

At 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on any details of this story and could not say when the indictments might be unsealed. The spokesman said there would not be a news conference about this case.
