Sinclair still in the race

The general election for Nassau County's 2nd Legislative District seat is now a three-way race.

Officials at the county Board of Elections announced on Sept. 21 that Westbury resident Pablo Sinclair has been added to the November ballot as an independent Democrat. Sinclair will run under the People First party line.

The journey to becoming a candidate in the district's race became a rocky one for Sinclair after he was disqualified from the 2nd L.D.'s Democratic primary on Aug. 6. William Biamonte, the county Board of Elections Democratic commissioner, said that 726 of the 822 signatures that Sinclair filed were thrown out because information was missing or incorrect addresses were listed.

Sinclair said, however, that he did not let the board's ruling discourage him from representing the district and he immediately began collecting signatures to run as an independent in the general election. He submitted 1,777 signatures to the Board of Elections on Aug. 18 and the board ruled on the petition signatures last Monday. The minimum requirement for such an effort is 1,500 signatures.

"I'm very happy that I am on the November ballot because this allows the residents of this district to have a choice," Sinclair said. "I’m a fighter, so I didn't give up after I was knocked off of the primary ballot and now I'm back in this race ready to represent the constituents in the second district."

Sinclair, the president of the Westbury Hills Civic Association and a political newcomer, said he is now moving forward with his door-to-door campaign and that he is aiming to garner support from residents who are looking for a change in leadership in the district.

"I'm looking to reach out to the residents in this district and let them know that I'm the candidate who will put their needs and concerns first," Sinclair said. "I'm looking to bring integrity back to this district and be the leader that this district needs on the Nassau County Legislature."

Sinclair will now face-off against Democratic candidate Robert Troiano and Republican candidate Derek Partee for the district's seat on Nov. 3.
