Six compete for seats on the West Hempstead Board of Education

Posted

In less than a month, West Hempstead residents will vote on their school district’s budget and determine who will represent them on its Board of Education — and this year, they’ve got quite a number of choices.
There are three seats up for grabs and six people, three of whom are incumbents, hoping to fill them. Anthony Brita, who joined the board in 2007, is running again for his seat uncontested, while both Martin Kaye and Davis Whelpley, who have served on the board for 19 and seven years, respectively, face challengers. Cynthia Di Miceli is running for Kaye’s seat. Nathalie Crosland and Rudolph Schindler are vying to replace Whelpley.
As the May 18 election day nears, the candidates are putting finishing touches on their campaign literature, meeting with voters and community organizations, and preparing for a candidates’ forum, hosted by the West Hempstead PTA, PTSA and SEPTA, where they’ll face-off to address the issues.
