SUNDAY UPDATE: LIPA announces briefing of Irene's damages

Michael Hervey, chief operating officer of the Long Island Power Authority, and John Bruckner, president of the Long Island Electric Transmission and Distribution Services for National Grid will hold a press briefing today at 2 p.m. at LIPA's headquarters — located at 175 East Old Country Rd. in Hicksville — to outline the storm damage to Long Island’s electric system from Hurricane Irene.

Hervey and Bruckner will also discuss the steps LIPA and National Grid are taking to restore all service as quickly as possible.

LIPA, a nonprofit municipal electric provider, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.
