Two robbed at gunpoint in West Hempstead

A man and woman were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday while walking in West Hempstead.

According to Nassau County Police, the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on June 10. Police said that a 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were walking in the vicinity of Hempstead Turnpike and Broad Street when they were approached by an unknown black male suspect displaying a handgun.

The suspect demanded money from the male victim, who surrendered his wallet, which contained an unknown amount of money and personal papers, police said. Then, police said, the robber grabbed the female victim's pocketbook, which also contained an unknown amount of money and personal papers.

The suspect fled on foot heading south on Broad Street and was seen entering a newer model two-door red Honda. The vehicle, which was occupied by two unknown black male suspects, fled the scene heading east on Hempstead Turnpike.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The subject is described as approximately 20 years of age, 6 feet tall with a thin build and wearing blue jeans and a black-hooded sweatshirt.
