Volunteers paint and clean vacant W.H. property

West Hempstead is getting made over one step at a time. The local Chamber of Commerce launched a beautification community that undertook, as one of its first projects, the cleanup of a vacant property on Hempstead Turnpike last weekend.  Diann Forquignon, an advisor to the West Hempstead Court Aktion Club, gathered a number of volunteers from her own group, which sponsored the cleanup, the Division 6 Key Club, local Kiwanis clubs and Boy Scout Troop 240, and together they painted over graffiti, sidewalks and poles, and spruced up and decorated vacant storefront windows. The paint and painting materials were provided by the owner of the building. The beautification committee will meet on Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. at the West Hempstead Public  Library.
