The U.S. Maritime Administration and Coast Guard held a public hearing about Port Ambrose, a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 18.5 miles southeast of Jones Beach, last Wednesday night in a ballroom at the Hilton New York JFK Airport in Jamaica, Queens. Port Ambrose opponents, who have assembled into a “No LNG Coalition,” conducted a press conference immediately before the hearing, drawing a few dozen people into a small hotel meeting room feet away from the ballroom.

State questions future for LNG

The company that wants to build a liquefied natural gas import terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 19 miles southeast of Jones Beach, Liberty Natural Gas, LLC, says the terminal would provide the greater New York City region with a new source of “competitively priced” natural gas. But New York State’s Energy Planning Board doesn’t see much of a future for liquefied natural gas, or LNG, imports in the United States. In fact, they are already waning, according to the board’s recently published 2014 Draft New York State Energy Plan. more

Gas relief may be coming to Long Island

Nassau County residents in dire need of gasoline may be seeing some relief over the coming days. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that he has signed an Executive Order to allow distributors to transport gasoline, diesel and kerosene into the New York without having to meet the usual registration requirements. more
