BHS graduates raise money for CF charities

Baldwin High School class of 1974 and other alumni got together at the end of August to celebrate one of their own.

Author and BHS graduate Richie Keane, who has battled cystic fibrosis for 57 years, signed copies of his book “Fighting with Crib Gloves” at The Helm in Freeport on Aug. 30. The money collected from the fundraiser went to benefit various cystic fibrosis charities, much like the entire proceeds from Keane’s book, which focuses on his life and struggles with the disease. Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disorder that causes abnormally thick mucus and can lead to blockage of the pancreatic ducts, intestines and bronchi, as well as respiratory infection.

The event not only raised money for charity, but was also a reunion of sorts for BHS alumni. There was live music, stories shared and plenty of laughs to go around.
