Baldwin Day this Saturday!

On Saturday, July 10, the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce will host, sponsor and organize Baldwin Day 2010 at Baldwin Park.

The Chamber is sponsoring and hosting the picnic starting from 4 p.m. Saturday with free food, while supplies last, from 4:30 to 6:30.

The Town of Hempstead is sponsoring a concert from 7:30 to 8:30.

The fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. The fireworks show will be on the soccer field south of the roller rink. The raindate for the fireworks is the following night, Sunday, July 11.

For entertainment, New World Music Center and School of Music will provide an all-Baldwin band, Non Stop to Cairo, a six-person alternative rock band, who will perform.

Three of the members of the band 30 Pack Jack broke off to form what would become Non Stop to Cairo: guitarist and vocalist Nick Diamond, bassist Matt Ezzo and drummer Dave Bartlett. A year later, after performing with several guest musicians, they were joined by August Harris on vocals, Tone Ramirez on guitar and saxophone and Andrew Hagerty on trombone. The group went on to win Good Times magazine's annual Long Island Music Festival in 2009.

The picnic and musical performance will begin at 4 p.m. in the park, at 3232 S. Grand Ave. Students from New World Music will offer solo performances, and Non Stop to Cairo will follow, with several students from the music school playing with the band.

The picnic will include a variety of booths set up by Baldwin businesses and organizations, all sponsored and organized by the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.

After the picnic, at 7:30 p.m., the Town of Hempstead will host a separate performance, Tony Ferrari's Chaperones Salute, a '50s and '60s tribute, as part of its Free Neighborhood Concert Series.

Following that concert, the fireworks display will be provided by the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
