In the end, by rushing standards through without adequate preparation, and by systemizing our children’s education according to these lifeless standards, devoid of all joy, the state is failing in its responsibility to develop lifelong learners.

We’re all for higher standards. Today’s children will someday seek work in an increasingly competitive world. But with new standards, there must be adequate preparation. In this regard, the State Education Department gets an F.
