AIDS/cancer 5K set for Sunday

Posted

The eighth annual 5K AIDS/Cancer Run/Walk will take place on June 7 at 9 a.m. at Baldwin Park.

My name is Richard Brodsky and I’m president of the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) public charity. I’m HIV-positive since 1997, a brain cancer survivor since 2002, and a marathon runner for life. I’m 62 years young and I recently ran my fastest marathon since my terminal cancer diagnosis.

I believe that people can reverse their aging process, even those living with HIV or cancer. Our mission needs to be to raise awareness to government, business and society that people afflicted with either illness should never give up. People living with life threatening illnesses can dramatically improve their health by leading a healthy lifestyle. Government can do its part by making sure that medical care and medicine is affordable.

Proceeds benefit people living with cancer and HIV at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, Center of AIDS Research & Treatment at North Shore University Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, 5 Towns Community AIDS Center and activities for people living with HIV and cancer.
