Baldwin residents voted yesterday to ratify the school board's 2011-2012 budget proposal and also elected a new school board member: former education reporter Laura Williams. Carl Williams, who was running unopposed, won the seat on the library board.

Following a trend that saw around 95 percent of budget proposals pass island-wide, Baldwin school district voters said yes to all four items proposed on yesterday's ballot.

According to the Baldwin School District office's website, "All four propositions for the Baldwin Budget Vote 2011-12 have passed: The School Budget (Proposition 1: Yes, 1481, No 776), the Public Library Budget (Proposition 2: Yes, 1487, No 756), the Establishment of the Capital Reserve (Proposition 3: Yes, 1526, No, 657) and the Spending of the Capital Reserve (Proposition 4): Yes, 1524, No, 642)."

A new trustee was also elected to the school board in the person of Laura Williams, who unseated veteran vice president Anne Hannon 1,099 to 633. Gregory McGlynn, a third candidate for the seat captured 440 votes.

Carl Williams won his seat on the library board with 1,347 votes.
