Residents of Baldwin will head to the polls next week to elect two school board candidates and vote on a budget proposal that asks for a 7 percent tax increase. The budget will require a 60 percent supermajority to gain approval. Also on the ballot will be Proposition 2, the library budget, and Proposition 3, which seeks community approval to use capital reserve funds. (See a preview ballot on page 9.)

Shireen Abed, a librarian with the West Hempstead Library, is running unopposed for Baldwin’s library board. She has been a Baldwin trustee since 2008.

The candidates for school board are incumbents Kim Taylor and Mary Clark, and challengers Joel Press and Deborah Rebore.

The last day to register to vote in Baldwin is May 16. Registration is taking place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school district office (960 Hastings St.), and absentee ballot applications may also be obtained there.
