The last day to register to vote is May 10. The incumbent candidates for school board are Mary Jo O’Hagan, the current board president, and Robert “B.A.” Schoen. The challengers are Tracy Mahler, Eric Harrison and Michael Grannum. Below are profiles of each candidate.

Mary Jo O’Hagan

A retired mother of two BHS graduates O’Hagan, the current school board president, has served on the Baldwin Board of Education for 18 years. O’Hagan holds a BS in English Education from SUNY Oneonta and has nine education credits from St. John’s University. She is the Vice President of the Nassau/Suffolk School Boards Association, a member of the Long Island Education Coalition and lists the academy programs at BHS among her proudest accomplishments with the school board. “I am very proud of our academy program at Baldwin High School, which allows students to concentrate on courses in Business, Medicine, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math),” O’Hagan said. “This runs parallel to our traditional program, which allows us to offer a wide variety of experiences to our students. Our alternative program, the Hastings Academy, provides a setting for many of our non-traditional students to find success and I would like to see both programs continue and strengthen. Another standout is our School To Career program, which offers large numbers of students a first hand look at a wide range of jobs, bridging the classroom experience to real world careers.”
