Baldwin student wins monthly school honor

Madison Evans, a Baldwin resident and a sixth-grader at Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School, was named student of the month for January.

The recognition is not easy to achieve, the Brookville-based school said. Students must exemplify academic excellence as well as character and service to fellow students, an honor worthy of recognition.

Students from each grade are eligible for to be named the Student of the Month, the school said. The school has 610 students.

Two join the dean’s list at Marist College

Two Baldwin residents were named to dean’s list at Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

Christopher DelGatto is a member of the class of 2017, and Jenna Zenaldin is a member of the class of 2019. Both are majoring in business administration.

Man named to boards in Brookhaven

A Baldwin native who now lives in Rocky Point has been appointed to the boards of the Brookhaven Industrial Development agency and the Brookhaven Local Development Corp.

Gary Pollakusky is managing partner of Media Barrel, a new media agency that focuses on online business and brand identity management, public and media relations and new media advertising and event planning.

"Gary Pollakusky brings new expertise to the boards of the Brookhaven IDA and Brookhaven LDC," Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said in a news release. “I am sure he will put his knowledge and experience to work for this important agency as it continues its efforts to strengthen the town’s economy.”

Pollakusky is a 1998 graduate of Cornell University. He started Media Barrel in 2002.

Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency promotes the economy of the Town of Brookhaven by helping to buy, build or equip commercial and industrial facilities.
