BHS holds Recognition of Excellence dinner

The first happy tears of the evening were shed to accompany Nafiysa Brotherson’s salute to her elementary school teacher Tammy Fortunot. Fortunot, Brotherson recalled, gave her the nickname “grandma” because she was quiet and worked slowly and carefully.

Baldwin High School recognized 10 of its most accomplished enrollees last week — and then allowed the students to salute their favorite teachers.
The seniors selected to participate in the event each chose three teachers from the beginning, middle and closing stanzas of their Baldwin academic careers, and brought them up on stage. The young scholars then spoke about the lessons each
instructor had conveyed to them, and about how that guidance helped them develop into the people they have become.
