Busy Tuesday in Baldwin

Precinct, Coes Neck, downtown project and school budget to be discussed

Four of Baldwin's most important issues will be discussed at community meetings tonight.

At a meeting of the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Hempstead Senior Councilman Anthony Santino will discuss the status of the downtown revitalization project. In December, Santino met with Chamber officials to provide details of a "Smart-Growth" proposal submitted by Albanese Development. On March 23, Santino and the rest of the Hempstead town board will review the proposal at a public hearing.

The Chamber meeting is members only.

The Baldwin Oaks Civic Association will meet to discuss the county's investigation of the 1st Precinct lease and also the status of cleanup on the Coes Neck property.

The civic group has been an integral part of efforts to have the Coes Neck property cleaned up and has also called on the county to renegotiate the precinct lease.

The meeting will be held at the South Hempstead Fire House (555 May Street, South Hempstead) at 7:30 p.m. All Baldwin residents are welcome to attend.

At 8 p.m. at the Baldwin School District Office (960 Hastings Street), the school board will meet to discuss the program portion of the proposed district budget. Administrative and capital plans were discussed earlier this month.
