Calhoun to induct Hall of Famers

Two years ago, Calhoun High School celebrated its 50th anniversary and kicked off its next 50 years with its inaugural Hall of Fame induction. The first class included:

W. Robert (Bob) Bury, teacher and coach, 1958 to 1988.

Dr. Matthew Cordaro, class of 1961.

Joseph Corea, teacher and coach, 1966 to present.

Timothy Davey, class of 1969.

Edward Grilli, class of 1970.

S. Talbot Thayer, teacher, 1958 to 1985.

Gen. John Uberti, class of 1979.

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield (Ben and Jerry), class of 1969.

Calhoun’s Hall of Fame Committee recently announced its second class of honorees, who will be inducted on March 16. They are:

Dan Christoffel, art teacher.

Gary Contessa, class of 1975.

Debbie Gibson, class of 1988.

Terry Karl, class of 1973.

Peter Restivo, class of 1961.

Joan Salvia, coach and phys.-ed. teacher.

MaryJane Sutay, coach and phys.-ed. teacher.

The Hall of Fame honors alumni and retired faculty members who have made significant contributions to Calhoun High School, have graduated and made significant contributions to the community, or have achieved excellence in their professional fields. The Hall of Fame Committee chairs are Linda DeMott and Charles Pagano.

The dinner and induction ceremony will be held Friday, March 16, at the Coral House in Baldwin at 7 p.m. The event will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by the dinner.
