Celebrating the class of 2011

A quotable send off for a phenomenal class

Posted

Baldwin Senior High School turned another page in its history on Sunday, bidding farewell to this year’s graduates. This class, as pointed out by its president, Justin Mahoney, in his address, achieved many things: The girl’s basketball team won the Long Island championship, the boy’s track and field team won the county title, and academic and artistic achievements were far too numerous to mention.

A quotable send off for a phenomenal class

Although we all have found different paths, it is diversity that makes our class strong as a whole. This class has put on some of the most incredible musical performances this town has ever seen.  This class has taken championships in basketball and in track. This class has worked tirelessly to help local charities and preserve our environment. These accomplishments, along with the many others I cannot list right now, go to show that this is one of the greatest classes to ever pass through the halls of Baldwin Senior High School.

Salutatorian address
to the BHS graduates of 2011

In this global age, when all the world is our neighbor, we must  have concern not only for the people who surround us here today, but for the world of nearly seven billion with whom we are not familiar. We live in a time when the number of people going hungry nears one billion, when disasters, disease and war plague us all, and when the warming accelerated by our rapid growth induces the extremes of climate instability.
Let none of this discourage you: the opportunities for change are great, for with even in the smallest of actions, you can make a difference. Your very success here today will have profound consequences in the future.
Valedictory address
Michael Schroeder, class of 2011

Congratulations graduates and welcome to Real World 101. When people reminisce about the Class of 2011, they will say this was the class that won our first Long Island girl’s basketball Championship. That this was the class that won the boys track and field County Championship for the second time. That this was the class from which the valedictorian and salutatorian attended the number one university in the nation. That this was the class with the phenomenal executive board, Sade, Omosefe, Maria, Karen and Regina, who were guided by superb advisors Ms. Romano and Ms. Thompson. We will then hold our heads high, remain proud, and proclaim, oh yes, that was us. THE CLASS OF 2011!
